O.k., by popular demand here is the truly amazing story of the tree! Picture a hundred year old pine tree that rises 40 stories or more in the sky, in the middle of a forest with many other trees just as big and as old. Now imagine you are camping one night in said forest. The night is clear, no wind, no storms, just the sounds of the forest. You are just nodding off to sleep when the solitude is disturbed by the enormously loud sound of a freight train going by. You jump out of your tent to see that the giant aforementioned tree is falling over! Fortunately, it is not falling your direction. Yet, panic sets in as you realize the tree has fallen on another camp site! Frantically you dial 911 and pray that no one was camping at that particular camp site. Now if you can imagine that then we are on the same page.
This is the story that a camper told us as we walked through the camp sites at Oswald State Park, wondering about the humongous tree that was freshly cut up to clear a way in the path. Basically the tree just fell over for no other reason than it was rotten in the middle. It was huge! The roots were pulled up out of the ground and standing next to the tree , the circumfrence was taller than me.
We marveled at this tree for quite a while and also marveled at the fact that no one was camping in the campsites that were in the trees' path. This is a miracle as this campsites is one of the busiest and most popular on the Oregon Coast.

Remember, I'm the smart one that brought the camera with no battery. I'm really upset with myself as there were oh, so many kodak moments!)
Did I have you going that this actually happend to us?
